CNN had its most-watched first quarter in 14 years (since 1Q 2003) among both adults 25-54 and total viewers. Among all quarters, the network posted its second highest quarterly ratings in total day (25-54 and total viewers) and 3rd highest in prime time (25-54) since 4Q 2008.
For the quarter that ended on Sunday (January-March), CNN ranked #2 in cable news, with all key programs posting record ratings and growing double digits compared to a year ago. February was another strong month for CNN with the network ranking #2 in cable news, with many programs posting record ratings and all shows growing double or triple digits compared to a year ago. CNN has topped MSNBC in Total Day (total viewers and 25-54) and in prime time (adults 25-54) for 32 consecutive months, the longest winning streak vs. MSNBC in nine years (since February 2008).
CNN’s The History of Comedy (10-11pm) ranked #2 in cable news last night among adults 25-54 according to Nielsen Fast National data. The program averaged 566k, +21% more than MSNBC’s 468k, while Fox News had 673k. In total viewers, CNN averaged 1.442 million, MSNBC had 2.166 million and Fox News registered 3.010 million.
In prime time among total viewers, CNN had 1.567 million, MSNBC averaged 2.084 million and Fox News posted 3.566 million.
Last Thursday's (2/9) premiere ranked fourth in adults 25-54 among all CNN Original Series telecasts, only behind the premieres of Race for the White House (JFK vs. Nixon – 843k; Lincoln vs. Douglas – 634k) and The Eighties (Raised on Television – 598k). In total viewers, the series was #3 among all CNN Original Series telecasts ever. The next episode, "The Funnier Sex" all about women in comedy, will premiere Thursday, Feb. 16, at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

CNN’s Debate Night: Sanders vs. Cruz: The Future of Obamacare (9-10:45pm) ranked #1 in cable news last night among adults 25-54 according to Nielsen Fast National data. Moderated by Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, the debate with Sens. Ted Cruz and Bernie Sanders averaged 932k, +29% more than Fox News’ 720k and a +124% advantage over MSNBC’s 417k among 25-54. In total viewers, the substantive policy debate averaged 2.464 million, MSNBC followed with 1.945 million and Fox News registered 3.391 million.
CNN was also #1 last night in prime time (8-11pm) in the demo. Among adults 25-54, CNN averaged 782k, Fox News followed with 732k and MSNBC trailed with 385k. In total viewers, CNN ranked #2 in prime time with 2.082 million, MSNBC had 1.750 million and Fox News averaged 3.599 million.
This debate ranked above all CNN non-election town hall premieres in both total viewers and adults 25-54.

January was an incredibly strong month for CNN. The network kicked off the year ranking #2 in cable news in Total Day in both total viewers and adults 25-54 and #2 in prime time among adults 25-54. The network also grew strong double digits vs. last year across all dayparts. CNN has now topped MSNBC for the 31st straight month in Total Day (total viewers and the demo 25-54), and in prime time (25-54) – the longest winning streak in nearly nine years (since Feb. 2008). CNN also outperformed MSNBC by +36% in total viewers and +87% in the demo 25-54 throughout dayside programming (9am-4pm).
In January, New Day with Chris Cuomo and Alisyn Camerota was back on top, beating MSNBC’s Morning Joe in the key demo 25-54 (154k vs. 144k). New Day has now topped MSNBC for two of the last three months (November 2016 and January 2017). CNN Tonight with Don Lemon was up the most vs. last year in weekday prime time cable news (8-11pm) among both total viewers (+78%) and adults 25-54 (+85%), with the network now beating MSNBC at 10pm for 30 of the past 31 months in the important key demo 25-54.
CNN ranked #10 in ALL of cable in Total Day and #11 in M-Su prime among total viewers in January.

CNN ranked a strong #2 in cable news during the Inauguration of President Donald Trump yesterday, January 20th. CNN also dominated MSNBC throughout the day and primetime in total viewers, among adults 25-54 and in 18-34. CNN is up compared to the nation’s last Presidential Inauguration in January 2013.

Among ALL cable networks, CNN was the fifth most-watched network for the month of November among total viewers in Total Day and prime time. CNN ranked a strong #2 in cable news in all dayparts among adults 25-54.
November was CNN’s highest rated month in Total Day among adults 25-54 in eight years (since November 2008) and second highest in total viewers since October 2008.
Among cable news networks, CNN once again thoroughly dominated MSNBC for the 29th straight month in Total Day and prime time demos. This is the longest winning streak over MSNBC in more than eight years. CNN also beat MSNBC in total viewers in Total Day, prime time and dayside. For the month, CNN beat MSNBC every hour of the day and in prime at 7, 8, 9 and 10 pm among adults 25-54.
And CNN’s morning program, New Day with Chris Cuomo and Alisyn Camerota, had its best month ever in both demos and viewers, and easily topped MSNBC’s Morning Joe among adults 25-54 (with its biggest advantage since June 2015). New Day posted CNN’s best numbers among total viewers in more than 11 years (since September 2005) and among demos in eight years (since November 2008). CNN Digital broke all historical records with its largest global audience in history on Wednesday, November 9th. CNN recorded its most trafficked day ever, serving 77 million global unique users with 483 million page views of content. CNN also saw 83 million video starts and 29 million live streams— all-time records for all key metrics.
CNN Politics also had its best day on record, with 31 million unique visitors, and 32 million video starts.
Across its social platforms, CNN also engaged with massive audiences on November 9th, 2016. On Facebook alone, CNN saw a total of 171.7 million interactions, 169.7 million video views and 47.6 million Facebook Live views. CNN engaged with 5 million unique users across messaging apps including Kik, LINE and Facebook Messenger, in addition to 5 million unique visitors on Apple News, and 4 million on Google AMP, collectively showing record-breaking reach and audience size across CNN’s ubiquitous coverage.
