Rep. Yoho (R-FL): "I agree 100%" solutions should be in GOP Obamacare playbook; criticism not helping anyone

This morning on “New Day,” Rep. Ted Yoho (R-FL) agreed with Anchor Chris Cuomo that the GOP Obamacare playbook should contain solutions and less criticism.

When Cuomo asked if solutions should be in the playbook, Rep. Yoho responded, “I agree 100%.... Criticism at this point is not going to help anybody. We need solutions. We’ve got two great solutions out there. We talk about it all the time.”

UN Amb. Power on Iran negotiations: Large relief numbers exaggerated

On “New Day” this morning, United States Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power opened up about negotiations with Iran, defending the United States’ engagement, while denouncing the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's comments about Israel as “abhorrent.” Ambassador Power said that we have to give something to get something, in regards to giving “modest relief.” Later in the interview, she advocated for Senate ratification of U.N. Disabilities Treaty, which she said “raises the standards” for people living outside the United States.

Power said, “[Iran wants] to know that we can also deliver on the back end of a deal. So we feel like we’re getting a very good deal here if we can secure this, which is to offer very modest, temporary and very reversible relief in exchange for being able to see whether they’re prepared to take that first step.” When CNN Anchor Kate Bolduan asked Power how much relief will be offered, she confirmed that “larger numbers are wildly exaggerated.”

CNN Digital captures a day in the life of the world’s busiest airport with ATL24

What do you get when you combine three dozen journalists, 8.7 miles of runway, 2,500 takeoffs and landings and 24 consecutive hours in Atlanta’s international airport? A CNN longform project called ATL24.

On August 28, CNN set out on a journey with the airport as their destination. From 12:01 a.m. to midnight, CNN staff witnessed moments of hope, love and loss as well as the layered interactions between man and machine. The resulting multi-media experience draws on the highlights of airports: a diverse slice of society, technology both miraculous and maddening and curiosities hidden in the mundane.

With 58,000 workers strong, Atlanta’s airport is somewhat of a city within a city.  Yet the quarter of a million passengers who pass through that airport on any given day rarely see what really makes the airport hum or cross paths with the people who complete the circuit between traveler and flight. Until now. Segments of ATL24 will also appear on CNN TV and on the Airport Network leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Chris Cuomo presses Sen. Cruz on healthcare reform; Cruz responds: Thank you for trying to lecture me

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) spoke to “New Day” Anchor Chris Cuomo about Pastor Saeed Abedini’s imprisonment in Iran, new Afghanistan deal, bipartisanship and the Affordable Care Act.

After Sen. Cruz said that Obamacare is not working and there is no fix to it, Cuomo asked him what solution he is offering to fix healthcare in the country. “You don’t think that you have a responsibility as a U.S. Senator to do better than that in terms of offering a solution on what to do next?”

Cruz responded, “Well, I appreciate you’re trying to lecture me in the morning. Thank you for that.”

“No, not at all, Senator. I’m worried,” Cuomo said. He added, “It’s not a lecture, it’s a concern.”

Later in the interview, Senator Cruz offered his ideas for an improved healthcare system, saying, “The single best thing we could do is expand competition. Let people purchase health insurance across state lines. If you want to expand access, what you want to do is increase choices and drive down cost. What Obamacare does is decreases choices and drives up cost. It doesn’t make sense, and it isn’t working. I’d like to see something that empowers consumers, not Washington bureaucrats.”

Rep. Schock (Ill.) on tornadoes: "Warning systems worked"

Live from Washington, Illinois, Rep. Aaron Schock (R-IL) revealed what he’s seen when walking around the communities hit hardest by the deadly tornadoes. Rep. Schock also addressed the response system.

“Well, it's amazing. I came over yesterday right after it hit and we're standing in neighborhoods that literally the only thing left is the pavement. Not a single structure. Not a single light post. The homes are completely vacuumed up,” Rep. Schock said. “And standing there talking to people who are just dazed and confused and in shock that, you know, they woke up in the morning and their house is gone now.”

He added, “I think the reason that there was only one loss of life in a community like this was because of the emergency response or the emergency warning system. I live in Peoria, and my phone was alerting, giving me the flood or the tornado warning system on my phone, which I was surprised I was getting it. And as I talked to neighbors and I said, you know, how did you know this was coming, the sirens were going, our cell phones were going off, and one neighbor amazingly came outside, saw his neighbor across the street mowing the lawn with his headset on, and went over luckily and said, hey, there's a tornado coming, get in the basement. So neighbor after neighbor was looking out for each other. The warning systems worked and I think that's why, despite the disaster you see, that there was such minimal loss of life.”
