CNN's Drew Griffin and Time magazine investigate what's behind the high cost of medical bills in America. They find a family who was charged hundreds of thousands of dollars for items like a blanket and the paper cup that holds a patient's pills.
Tonight on AC360°, Anderson spoke with DNC Chairwoman and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz about various Romney platforms including his stance on abortion. Anderson specifically asked about a fundraising email where the DNC quoted only a part of a report from the Los Angeles Times in order to suggest that Romney "directed" the writing of the platform.
Anderson pushed Wasserman Schultz for accuracy and to clarify that the Romney campaign didn’t design or direct the abortion platform – the platform came from the party.

Tonight on AC360’s segment Keeping Them honest, Anderson Cooper examined the claims made by Rep. Michele Bachmann and four of her Republican colleagues, who sent letters to government agencies calling for an investigation into potential “deep penetration” in the government by Muslim extremists. Bachmann's also claims Huma Abedin, aide to Sec of State Clinton, is "working on behalf of the Muslim Brotherhood."
Both the Obama & Romney camps are battling over negative ad campaigning. Last night on AC360°, Anderson Cooper spoke with David Axelrod, a senior strategist for the Obama campaign, about the campaign’s ads. Cooper questioned their statements that they were running a positive campaign.
Watch Axelrod’s response and interview below –
On the heels of President Obama's new immigration policy, tonight’s keeping Them Honest takes a look at where Mitt Romney stands on immigration, We learn tonight that Sen. Marco Rubio – who is a potential Romney running mate – shelved his plan to introduce an alternative to the DREAM Act that would appeal to Republicans.
As a result of several reports on Anderson Cooper 360° on the Disabled Veterans National Foundation (DVNF), the Senate Finance Committee has opened an investigation to explore how of $56 million dollars raised, none of that money has actually gone to help veterans groups directly.
Tonight, Anderson Cooper 360 is again Keeping Them Honest. This time it’s homeless pets.
If you look at the dogs and cats being so well cared for by the Montreal SPCA, you’d think it’s a charity in solid shape.
But the executive director of the charity told CNN that the organization is still in significant debt to a U.S. direct mail fund raising company after signing a seven year contract.
Nicholas Gilman, the Montreal SPCA’s Executive Director, told CNN’s Drew Griffin that his charity once owed a little more than $4 million to a company called Quadriga Art, headquartered in New York City. Quadriga Art is the same direct mail company still owed more than $15 million by a Washington-based veteran’s charity, now under investigation by the Senate Finance Committee. That $4 million debt has now been whittled down to around $1.7 million but Quadriga Art, Gilman said, also has a lien on the charity’s shelter in Montreal.
Quadriga Art CEO, Mark Schulhof has repeatedly refused Griffin’s interview requests.
A spokesperson gave CNN this statement” This has been a proven model for more than 50 years, despite being criticized by some charity watch groups”
Even following today’s massacre in Deir Ezzor , the Syrian regime continues to deny involvement in the Houla murders this weekend and say they haven't violated the cease-fire they agreed to weeks ago. Russia and China continue to diplomatically protect al-Assad.
As many as 12,000 people have been killed in Syria over the last 15 months and tonight AC 360° is Keeping Them Honest.
After seeing Drew Griffin's report on Anderson Cooper 360°, Senators Max Baucus and Richard Burr started an investigation into a charity that raised millions, but gave little to disabled veterans. Tonight Baucus was a guest on AC360° and credited CNN and AC360° for bringing attention to this matter, telling Anderson ” You highlighted it in one of your reports and we got to looking at it and asked a lot of questions of the organization that they’re not answering”
As a result of several reports on Anderson Cooper 360° on the Disabled Veterans National Foundation (DVNF), Senators Max Baucus (D – Montana) and Richard Burr (R – N.C) announced today that they will start an investigation into possible abuse of the foundation’s tax-exempt nonprofit status. The senators requested documents and records relating to their fundraising and marketing activities.
The Disabled Veterans National Foundation claims to raise money for disabled vets. According to their tax filing they have raised close to $56 million in the last three years. Anderson Cooper 360° and CNN’s Drew Griffin have been investigating this group for years and what they found is shocking. Of the $56 million dollars, AC360° has found that none of that money has actually gone to help veterans groups directly. Much of the donations are things that the group did not want, ask for or need – like 11, 520 bags of coconut M&Ms!
Drew Griffin has tried for more than a year to speak with the president of DVNF, Pricilla Landry Wilkewitz, to find out what happened to the money they raised. Griffin even went to her home but she declined an interview.
Obama campaign spokesman Ben Labolt dodges Anderson’s questions as he says criticism of Mitt Romney's work at Bain Capital is justified.
