Greg Manifold Joins CNN as VP of Visuals & Design

May 11, 2026 – Greg Manifold joins CNN Worldwide as Vice President of Visuals & Design, the network announced today.

In this new role, Manifold will lead and help elevate visual journalism and design across CNN’s daily news coverage, including breaking news, features, and enterprise reporting. He will also have a key voice in shaping CNN’s enhanced visual identity across all platforms. This is a newly created role at CNN, and comes as visual journalism becomes an even bigger part of the network’s mission.

A multi award-winning journalist and designer, Manifold joins CNN after 20 years at the Washington Post, where he most recently served as Head of Visuals, championing visual storytelling initiatives that strengthened the Post’s most distinctive journalism. He has led large, multidisciplinary newsroom teams through periods of transformation, aligning visual storytelling, design strategy, and audience insight to increase impact and relevance. During his tenure, the Post was twice named the World’s Best-Designed digital site (2020 and 2025) by the Society for News Design and won the SND’s Best in Show honor three times in seven years. In addition, he contributed visually-led news coverage honored with the Pulitzer Prize.

Manifold produced the virtual reality film ‘12 Seconds of Gunfire,’ which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival, earned a Webby Award, and was screened at 16 international film festivals. He served as a visual editor for ‘The Mueller Report Illustrated,’ a graphic novel adaptation published by Simon & Schuster.

Before the Post, Manifold worked with The San Diego Union-Tribune and The Tribune (San Luis Obispo), where he began his professional career as a Sports Designer and Reporter. He actively participates with the Society for News Design.

Manifold is based out of CNN’s Washington, DC bureau.
