CNN’s Krishna Andavolu Named Explainers Correspondent

NEW YORK, NY–(August 20, 2026)–CNN has named Emmy award-winning journalist Krishna Andavolu Explainers Correspondent, the network announced today. In this expanded role, Andavolu will continue to host CNN Explains, a streaming series for CNN subscribers, that helps audiences understand the forces shaping their lives.

Since joining CNN in 2025, Andavolu has served as Senior Producer and a featured host for CNN Explains, delivering clear, visually rich and deeply reported videos that break down complex topics, spanning global events to everyday questions, so viewers can understand the world with confidence. Recent episodes have covered everything from the U.S. Supreme Court and artificial intelligence to immigration and soccer’s offside rule.

Prior to CNN, Andavolu was best known as anchor of VICE’s nightly news show, VICE News Tonight. He also developed and hosted the popular ground-breaking documentary series Weediquette chronicling the science, economics, culture, and politics of cannabis. Andavolu also previously served as a correspondent and producer for several VICE special series airing on HULU, HBO, and Showtime; covering science, technology, politics, and culture. He embedded with ICE agents to explore the realities of American children growing up in the shadow of deportation, and reported extensively on the intersection of drugs, policy, and culture.

Andavolu was honored with a News and Documentary Emmy Award in 2021 for Outstanding Newscast as anchor of VICE News Tonight. He was also nominated for three Emmys for VICE News Tonight; Outstanding Continuing News Coverage: Long Form (2022), Best News Coverage: Long Form (2022), and Outstanding Recorded News Program (2023).

Andavolu received his bachelor’s degree in history from Wesleyan University. He is based in New York.
