CNN’s Ivan Watson speaks to family of jailed Greenpeace activist

CNN’s Ivan Watson (@IvanCNN) speaks exclusively to the wife and daughter of jailed Greenpeace activist Peter Wilcox.

Wilcox, a captain of Greenpeace ship, Arctic Sunrise, was detained along with 29 other passengers aboard the ship last month by Russian authorities after two activists attempted to scale an oil rig. The vessel is operated by Russian energy Gazprom, and had plans to drill for oil in the Arctic Ocean.

Natasha Wilcox first learned of her father’s arrest while attending school as a student at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island.

“I would ask [the Russians] to open a dictionary and read the definition of piracy,” she said. “They tried to board an oil rig. They didn’t try to hurt anyone. They didn’t have weapons.”
