Sen. Pryor: Senate deal may pass tomorrow; it “should have bipartisan support in House”

Senator Mark Pryor (D-AR) told “New Day” Anchor Chris Cuomo that an agreement to end the shutdown, raise the debt ceiling and pave the way for further negotiations could come today and pass tomorrow in the Senate, and the deal “should have bipartisan support in the House.” By getting 70-80 votes in the Senate, Senator Pryor believes that this would put “pressure on the House to get this passed.” He said that some Republicans who are “childish” and “irresponsible” have been the real problem in Washington.

“I think we’ll get an agreement today in the Senate,” Senator Pryor said. “I’m not saying we can pass it today because [there are] logistics about drafting and getting it to the floor and the procedural things we have to do…. My guess is we’ll pass something in the Senate tomorrow, get it over to the House as quickly as possible and hopefully they’ll pass it shortly thereafter.”

He added, “It should have bipartisan support in the House. And one of the goals that we really set out within our group is we said look, we don’t want 60 votes, we want to get 70, 75 to 80 votes on this if we possibly can because we think that that really puts pressure on the House to get this passed.”
