Rep. Chaffetz: Security measures go “way too far”

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) spoke with New Day’s Chris Cuomo and Kate Bolduan about Russia granting Edward Snowden asylum for one year, privacy versus security, embassy closings this weekend and criticism of how the administration has handled the U.S. consulate attack in Benghazi.

“I think it’s ridiculous for anybody to use the word freedom and Russia in the same sentence. [Snowden’s] new freedom? I don’t think so,” Rep. Chaffetz said. “It really does, I think, put some pressure on how we do these security clearances. Are we going to continue to use these contractors? That’s something we have to dive into to make sure that this doesn’t happen again.”

Rep. Chaffetz added, “I just don’t believe you’re going to give up every liberty, every freedom in the name of security. I think a lot of these things go way too far.”

New Day airs weekday mornings 6-9am ET on CNN.
