New CNN App for Windows Phone hits the street

London 27 February 2012. The new CNN App for Windows Phones launches this week, enabling users to tap into the very latest news and video reports from around the globe, direct from the CNN newsroom.

Available exclusively to Nokia users for the first 90 days, including on the award-winning new Lumia 900, the CNN App will then be made available on all Windows Phone devices as they come to market.

The new App explores the full capabilities of the Windows Phone 7 operating system to deliver a vivid, panoramic interface. Features include the ability to pin sections of the app to a home screen, Live Tile for real-time news updates, and direct access to iReport, CNN’s participatory news community, which now numbers over a million users.

The iReport feature is one of the key components of the new CNN App. For the first time on an app, users will have the ability to submit iReports while simultaneously capturing news events on their devices.

“Our intention here was to set a benchmark for excellence among all apps on this platform,” said Louis Gump, Vice President of Mobile at CNN, “The interface we’ve created really shows where this technology is headed, and we think this will become an essential app for Windows Phone owners.”
