This August, MainSail comes from Sardinia, with ‘behind the scenes’ access into one of the world’s premier international sailing grand prix circuits – the Med Cup. To those who come to see the spectacular racing yachts in action, this is a glamorous tour that provides a unique spectacle. However, presenter Shirley Robertson reveals that for many of those on the inside, this is an intense week with a lot at stake. She spends time with one of the international race crews who are on a mission to win, and meets with one of the few female race officers in the world, observing first hand the pressures of delivering a racing programme. MainSail also talks to the man responsible for the entire event, with an insight into the operation for delivering an extravagant day out for VIP guests, co-ordinating the live TV helicopters, and handling the random surprises that come his way.
