CNNMoney launches new site design

Announces partnerships with StockTwits and SigFig

CNNMoney, the leading business and finance news destination and home to Fortune.com and Money.com, launched a redesigned website today giving readers a unified experience across the web, mobile and tablet platforms. The new site features a beta tablet view, increased social media integration, new editorial channels and expanded economy, technology and finance coverage. Additionally, today CNNMoney announces two new partnerships with StockTwits and SigFig. You can see the new site here: http://www.CNNMoney.com.

The full press release, including downloadable images of the new CNNMoney.com, are available after the jump.

In partnership with StockTwits, a real-time, social idea network for the investing community, CNNMoney will feature editorial content from StockTwits bloggers, sell advertising across the blog network and share revenue. The StockTwits Blog Network brings together market professionals on a real-time financial platform where they can share in-depth, actionable financial ideas.

SigFig, an upcoming portfolio tool from Wikinvest, will be featured prominently in the new CNNMoney site starting in June 2011. The tool, which will be available exclusively on CNNMoney and SigFig when it launches, will sync with readers’ brokerage accounts, help them track and analyze their holdings, and recommend ways they can invest better. Readers will also be able to create and edit mock portfolios and watch lists, set alerts, track news, and view performance and fees across all their accounts.

The new CNNMoney design elevates the brands of FORTUNE and MONEY with more substantial positioning on the homepage, as well as branded content throughout the site. The new FORTUNE homepage mimics the feel of the magazine in terms of iconography and fonts. FORTUNE’s finance coverage will have a larger presence on the new site in a new channel called Term Sheet, which features rich reporting on banking, economics, venture capital, mergers and acquisitions and private equity.

Also for the first time, CNNMoney and FORTUNE are coming together to create a shared technology channel to display news and analysis from both brands in one place. In March, traffic to technology coverage on CNNMoney has increased 85% YOY according to Omniture.

Additional elements of the redesigned site include:

  • Beta web-based tablet view offering a visual display of all content and videos
  • Expanded markets coverage with a new, interactive tracker on homepage
  • New article elements such as quote bubbles and ability to lead with video as main image
  • Hand-curated video homepage featuring videos in larger format with faster streaming
  • Increased sharing functions for Twitter and Facebook, as well as the integration of Disqus as a commenting platform.
  • Ability to sort content by popularity to which stories are trending on CNNMoney and across social media platforms
  • Ability to sign up for news and stock alerts, watch lists, and newsletters
  • Expanded ad units and advertising opportunities

The launch sponsors for the redesign are Adobe and BMW.
