Rep. Pallone: Boehner doesn't care about blue states NY, NJ

Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) criticizes Speaker John Boehner for not bringing a Hurricane Sandy relief bill up for a vote on Tuesday because he thinks Boehner wanted to avoid too much spending at one time, opting for a more “obscure” piecemeal plan of lesser payments.

Rep. Pallone says, “I really think that the speaker doesn't care about New York and New Jersey. In other words, we're blue states. The fact of the matter is that he was afraid to bring this up yesterday, in my opinion, because the Tea Party and the right wing did not want to vote for the spending bill for New York or primarily for New York and New Jersey.”

Gov. Markell surprised Romney doubled down at press conference

On Early Start Governor Jack Markell (D-DE) reacts to Mitt Romney video leak and press conference.

When CNN Anchor John Berman asks if this is a good or bad development for conservatives, mentioning Rush Limbaugh’s support, Gov. Markell says, “I'm sure that that's what Rush Limbaugh believes. I guess that's what Romney believes. But if you're a senior citizen, if you're a student, if you're a veteran who's come back from war, he's talking about you. You're the 47 percent that he is saying, you know, you feel like you're entitled. You don't want to be working.”

DNC rep.: "We're absolutely better off" than four years ago

DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse joins Early Start live at the CNN Grill in Charlotte to talk about the upcoming DNC convention and President Obama’s accomplishments.

Woodhouse says, “Joe Biden does it in a very short form. He talks about G.M. is alive and Osama bin Laden is dead. The truth is though is that the American people know. I mean, we were literally a plane that was heading - the trajectory was towards the ground when the president took over. He got the stick, he's pulled us up out of that decline. We were losing 800,000 jobs a month. Lost 3.5 millions, Americans I know have not forgotten, we lost 3.5 million jobs in the last six months of the Bush administration. We gained 4.5 million jobs over the past two and a half years. So if you just put those side by side, clearly we're better off. However, we have a long way to go.”

He continues, “[President Obama] created 4.5 million jobs. He promised to do something about health care - he did it. He promised to end the war in Iraq - he did. He promised if given the opportunity, he'd go after Osama bin Laden in Pakistan, he did it. He's kept his promises.”

Plaquemines Parish president: Worse than "worst case scenario"

Plaquemines Parish president Billy Nungesser gives update on levee overtopping from Hurricane Isaac, which could lead to significant flooding.

Nungresser says, “Well, the levees are topping in several locations. We’re trying to get the few people who have stayed beyond, out…. We’ve got a serious situation over there.”

He continues, “Not only did we see the worst case scenario, it got worse than that by this storm just stalling…. So the levees can only take so much. We actually we were in the process of raising the those levees prior to this event.”

CNN Anchor Zoraida Sambolin asks, “Raising it as part of the billions of dollars that were spent on the levees or raising it because of this impending storm?”

Nungresser responds, “This is a levee that is a Parish levee that was left out of the federal system. So we were spending Parish money to raise it to give them a fighting chance. We just needed a couple more years without a major storm and it doesn’t look like we got that.”

National Organization for Marriage rep.: Labeling FRC a hate group is "totally irresponsible;" shooting "makes this clear"

National Organization for Marriage's Brian Brown says that the Family Research Council shooting was “politically motivated” and labeling the organization a hate group is “totally irresponsible.”

Brown says, “All the indications from multiple sources that were there, say the shooter actually came in and started attacking the policies of the Family Research Council.”

He continues, “Everything points to the fact that this was politically motivated…. Groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center which has labeled the Family Research Council, which is a mainstream group, a hate group. That sort of talk… is totally irresponsible and unacceptable and I think this incident makes that clear.”

Rep. Gingrey: Romney and Ryan Medicare plans are 'very similar'

Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-GA) speaks to CNN’s John Berman about the Romney and Ryan Medicare plans and latest polling on GOP VP choice.

When asked about the Medicare plans, Rep. Gingrey said, “It's the same game plan, even though you may have a different center fielder. The straw that stirs this drink obviously is Mitt Romney. He is going to be the next president of the United States. Paul Ryan is going to be the vice president. And I think they’ll get on tweaking around the edges in regard to the plan.”

John Berman then presented results of a USA Today/Gallup poll showing 43 percent of independents rating the VP choice as fair/poor.

Rep. Gingrey responded, “Well, it would indicate at this point in time the Democrats are doing a pretty good job of continuing to scare seniors. But the only poll that really matters as you know, John, is that poll on November the 6th and we get the final count.”
