Home movies and archival footage of Richard Nixon reveal personal, public persona of 39th President

45 years after a break-in at the Democratic National Committee offices at the Watergate building complex in Washington, D.C., CNN Films will air Our Nixon, an intimate portrait of the 39th president’s time in office told wholly through archival footage.  The two-hour film will air Saturday, July 01, beginning at 8:00pm Eastern.  Our Nixon is co-produced by Brian Frye and Penny Lane.

Much of the film’s footage was shot by three of Nixon’s top White House aides, H.R. Haldeman (Chief of Staff, 1969-1973), John Ehrlichman (Assistant to the President, Domestic Affairs, 1969-1973), and Dwight Chapin (Deputy Assistant to the President, 1969-1973).  Throughout Richard Nixon’s presidency, the men documented their experiences with Super 8 home movie cameras for a unique and personal visual record of their lives and work with Nixon.  The result is an intimate and complex depiction of the Nixon presidency as rarely seen.

Our Nixon will also stream live for subscribers via CNNgo (at www.CNN.com/go, and via CNNgo apps for AppleTV, Roku, Amazon Fire, and Samsung TV), as well as via the CNN mobile apps for iOS and Android.  The film will be available for streaming via CNNgo beginning Sunday, July 2 through Dec. 31, 2017, via CNNgo platforms, and CNN mobile apps.

On June 12, 2016, forty nine people were murdered and dozens more injured at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida. It was one of the worst mass shootings in United States history. The attack left 49 families grieving, as well as survivors and first responders reeling from the horrors they witnessed.  In the year since, many of those touched most deeply by this tragedy have found purpose in their pain and turned their grief into action.

In a moving one hour special, Anderson Cooper returns to Orlando and revisits this painful chapter of American history. Cooper helps tell the stories of what happened that night, and what has happened since in the lives of a number of people touched by the tragedy, including Christine Leinonen, mother of Christopher Andrew Leinonen, who was killed that night, as well as survivor Angel Colon, first responder, police officer Omar Delgado, and Pulse owner Barbara Poma.

"This was the deadliest terror attack in the United States since September 11th, and sickening assault on the LGBT community," said Cooper. " We wanted to remember the lives lost, and reconnect with many of those we first met one year ago."

The Pulse of Orlando: Terror at the Nightclub, a CNN Special Report will air Friday, June 30th, at 10pm ET.

In addition to the TV airings, The Pulse of Orlando: Terror at the Nightclub will also stream live for subscribers on June 30th via CNNgo (at www.CNN.com/go and via CNNgo apps for AppleTV, Roku, Amazon Fire and Samsung TV) and on the CNN mobile apps for iOS and Android.  The Pulse of Orlando: Terror at the Nightclub will also be available the day after the premiere (July 1) on demand via cable/satellite systems, CNNgo platforms and CNN mobile apps.

ELIÁN Premieres Thursday, Aug. 24 on CNN/U.S. & CNN en Español

CNN Film explores the international custody battle and history of the relationship between U.S.& Cuba

As America renews restrictions to its Cuba policy, a new documentary from Pulitzer prize-winning journalist and director Tim Golden, director Ross McDonnell, and producer Trevor Birney, explores a pivotal moment in that relationship: the international custody battle and cultural fallout following the 1999 sea rescue of five-year-old Elián González.  ELIÁN, will premiere in simulcast on CNN/U.S. and CNN en Español Thursday, Aug. 24 at 10:00pm, with limited commercial interruption.  The two-hour CNN Film will encore Friday, Aug. 25 on CNN/U.S. at 2:00am, with limited commercial interruption, and will air again Saturday, Aug. 26 at 10:00pm and Sunday, Aug. 27 at 2:00am on CNN/U.S..  All times Eastern.  ELIÁN is narrated by Tony Award®-nominated actor Raúl Esparza.

“At a moment when Americans are once again debating the country’s relationship with Cuba, Elián’s story is a powerful reminder of how ordinary Cubans in both countries have so often been trampled in the geopolitical battles between Washington and Havana,” Golden said.

In a series of exclusive interviews for the film, Elián González, now 23 years old, eloquently details harrowing memories of his rescue from the Florida Straits and the unrelenting media circus that surrounded his days in America.  He also describes his hopes for reconciliation between the Cuban and American people, and more specifically for his own divided family.  Elián’s father, Juan Miguel González, and his American cousin, Marisleysis González, speaking in separate exclusive interviews, talk through their emotions as the legal battle and the family drama unfolded.

“This timely story is expertly revealed, in all of its necessary complexity, by Tim, Ross, and Trevor,” said Amy Entelis, executive vice president for talent and content development for CNN Worldwide.  “The film lays bare both the emotional family tensions of the custody battle over young Elián González, and the overlying ideological struggle between nations that shadowed every extraordinary event between Elián’s rescue and return to his father,” Entelis said. CNN Expands Content Offerings on Amazon Alexa

Building on the CNN Skill made available to Amazon Echo, Amazon Tap and Echo Dot owners in 2016, CNN has expanded its offerings on Amazon platforms to include daily ‘Flash Briefings’ and programming for the new Amazon Echo Show product.

On Amazon’s Echo Show, users can dive straight to the topic they want to hear, and now, watch with the “CNN skill.” With the product’s new video offerings, the skill features video clips from CNN television minutes after air. After enabling the CNN skill, Amazon Alexa users can find the top stories and breaking news topics covered on CNN in near real time. The news is curated throughout the day by CNN’s editorial staff who tracks developments in the top stories, updating Alexa and offering audiences the ability to watch back segments on the news that matters the most to them. To discover CNN on the platform, just say, “Alexa, Open CNN.”

CNN will also update its daily flash briefing to include a morning video Flash Briefing, hosted by CNN’s New Day anchors, Chris Cuomo and Alisyn Camerota. Audio from this content will also be available across all Amazon Echo devices in the CNN Flash Briefing skill, as well as other platforms like Google Home and iTunes. This update to the CNN Flash Briefing will take advantage of the new video capabilities of the Amazon Show, and refine past updates that replaced a text-to-speech experience with a more curated, twice daily audio program. To find the CNN Flash Briefing, enable the “CNN Flash Briefing” skill and move it to the top of your flash briefing list in the Settings section of the Amazon Alexa app.

CNN is also adding a new voice to audio news with CNN Politics Reporter and Editor-at-Large, Chris Cillizza. Cillizza will anchor a new audio politics briefing, delivered in five minutes or less, every weekday starting at 7pm ET. "The Point with Chris Cillizza" will be available everywhere you listen to podcasts and through Amazon Echo Flash Briefings and Google Home news briefings.

CNN was the first publisher to deliver topic-based TV coverage in near-real time on Amazon Echo, Amazon Tap, and Echo Dot. With this expansion, CNN’s audio offerings now include a custom CNN skill on Amazon Alexa, CNN action on Google Home, two separate daily news briefings via Amazon Alexa’s Flash Briefing and Google Home’s Narrated News, alongside podcasts available on both platforms through TuneIn.

CNN Wins Prince Rainier III Special Prize at Monte Carlo TV Festival

CNN's 'Midway: A Plastic Island', a revealing documentary on the tiny Pacific island on the frontline of the world's fight against discarded plastic, received the Prince Rainier III Special Prize at the 57th Monte Carlo Television Festival Tuesday night.

CNN's Nick Paton Walsh, Ingrid Formanek and Deborah Rayner were on hand to accept the prestigious award from Monte Carlo Television Festival Honorary President HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco.

About Midway: A Plastic Island:
Last summer CNN got exclusive access to Midway Atoll in the north Pacific Ocean, where the plastic we throw away each day washes up on the beach, works its way into the ocean and potentially ends up in our food. From the frontline, CNN’s Nick Paton Walsh, Ingrid Formanek, Jackson Loo and Mark Phillips got a closer look at the toll our disposable culture is taking on the wildlife there – and the health implications for the rest of the world. Watch the documentary here.

Impact of Midway: A Plastic Island:
CNN's 'Midway: A Plastic Island' has been integrated into educational resources in the UK as a unique way to explore the impact of plastic pollution. CNN also recently supported a children's film festival at the London IMAX, where more than 2,000 children from schools across the UK gathered to watch the video reports they created based on CNN's reporting from Midway.

CNN has won five prestigious Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association, which honor outstanding achievements in electronic journalism. CNN's diverse recognitions range from breaking news to social media, international news to domestic reporting.

Undercover in Syria – News Series

After 6 months of planning how to safely make the trip into areas of Syria held by Islamist jihadist factions, CNN's Clarissa Ward and her team – producer Salma Abdelaziz and filmmaker Bilal Abdul Kareem – went deep undercover into the northern part of the country, the first western broadcast journalists to do so in nearly 2 years. Their aim was to see the impact of Russia’s involvement in the Syrian civil war. It didn’t take long to see the bombing residents were enduring on a constant basis.

28 Hours Surrounded by ISIS – Hard News; Excellence in Video

In this report from the battle to retake Mosul from ISIS, CNN's Arwa Damon and cameraman Brice Laine traveled into the city with Iraqi counterterrorism forces. The armored convoy was lured into an ambush and became stranded in ISIS territory in the midst of a vicious battle. They had to flee the vehicles and seek shelter in a succession of houses as ISIS fighters closed in. The resulting story is a gripping journey inside the battle for Mosul, and an example of war reporting at its finest.

Charlotte Riots – Breaking News

Charlotte was a city on edge. It had been two days since police shot and killed an African-American man who may or may not have been armed, and demonstrations and calls for justice were beginning to take a more sinister turn. CNN's cameras were rolling the moment violence erupted, and didn't stop for the next three days. Audiences watched live as CNN correspondents Boris Sanchez and Ed Lavandera were caught in dangerous crosshairs of this breaking news event.

Presidential Election 2016 – Social Media

Wherever you were in 2016, it was impossible to escape social media’s influential role in driving the everyday discourse of the presidential election. No matter the app or platform, CNN was there – from the first Facebook Live by a news organization to choose-your-own-adventure explainers on Kik. It was an action plan mapped out over 24 months that boiled down to 24 hours of non-stop, wall-to-wall coverage, giving our readers a deeper understanding of the people and issues of the 2016 campaign.
