CNN DIGITAL POSTS ALL-TIME HIGHS, REMAINS #1 IN EVERY METRIC

CNN LEADS IN DIGITAL VIDEO FOR 15TH STRAIGHT MONTH

BUZZFEED SHOWS DECLINES ACROSS THE BOARD; DOWN IN VISITORS, VIEWS, MINUTES, MOBILE, VIDEO

CNN Digital posted record high numbers in July 2016, continuing its streak as the #1 news destination. Last month, CNN outpaced all news and information competitors with more multiplatform unique visitors, mobile unique visitors, multiplatform views, video starts and consumption time than any other news outlet. In many cases, CNN totals were higher than several competitors combined. Meanwhile, BuzzFeed posted declines in nearly every metric.

July also marked the network’s 15th straight month as the number one source for digital news video. 

#1 IN MULTIPLATFORM UNIQUE VISITORS

CNN welcomed 115 million unique multiplatform visitors in July – an increase of +37% versus the prior year — far outpacing second place Yahoo News by 21 million visitors across platforms and third place New York Times by 29 million. BuzzFeed’s multiplatform unique visitors declined -7% over the prior month and -13% over the previous year.

#1 IN MOBILE UNIQUE VISITORS

In July, CNN saw 86 million unique visitors via mobile devices — a 61% increase from the year prior and 42% more than sixth place BuzzFeed who showed -7% mobile traffic drops over June 2016.

#1 IN MULTIPLATFORM VIEWS

CNN Digital registered a record-high number of multiplatform views in July 2016 with 1.9 billion views — 62% more than FoxNews.com and a whopping 207% higher than BuzzFeed.  For the month of July 2016, BuzzFeed’s multiplatform views were down -11% compared to June and -21% compared to July 2015.

#1 IN MULTIPLATFORM MINUTES SPENT

On desktop and mobile devices, visitors spent a record-high 4.2 billion minutes consuming CNN Digital content — a 154% increase over The New York Times and 187% more than BuzzFeed. Continuing to decline, BuzzFeed dropped -6% over the previous month and -9% over July 2015.

#1 IN MOBILE MINUTES SPENT

CNN mobile users spent an all-time record of 1.6 billion minutes consuming content in July. Buzzfeed showed -5% declines over the prior month.

#1 VIDEO STARTS

The clear and undisputed leader in news video, CNN beat all news competitors in video starts with an all-time high 305 million video starts in July — nearly double that of the nearest competitor FoxNews.com. Meanwhile, BuzzFeed posted major declines: -19% vs June 2016 and a whopping -36% over the prior year.

#1 VIDEO TIME CONSUMED

Audiences spent an astounding 2.2 billion minutes watching CNN digital videos in July — more time than Fox News, MSNBC and The New York Times combined. Down -17% over the prior month and -49% vs the previous year, BuzzFeed’s users consumed a mere 214 million minutes in July.
