Second Most-Watched CNN Original Series Premiere Ever

Series is Up Triple-Digits from The Sixties and The Seventies Premieres

CNN #1 in Prime Time

Last night’s premiere of CNN’s newest Original Series The Eighties (9-11pm) ranked #1 among adults 25-54 according to Nielsen Fast National data.  The episode, Raised on Television, attracted 598k in the key demo 25-54, Fox News followed with 383k and MSNBC trailed with 300k.  In total viewers, CNN topped MSNBC (1.415m vs. MSNBC’s 1.344 million); Fox News averaged 1.994 million.  The Eighties: Raised on Television is the second most-watched CNN Original Series premiere ever in both total viewers and adults 25-54 (behind Race for the White House:  Kennedy vs. Nixon) and third highest CNN Original Series telecast ever.

The Eighties (598k) premiere was also up by triple-digits compared to The Sixties debut (284k, +111%) and The Seventies (291k, +105%) among adults 25-54.  It was also up in total viewers (Eighties/1.415m. vs. Seventies/887k vs. Sixties/1.390m).

CNN was also #1 in prime time (8-11pm) last night among adults 25-54 with 499k, Fox News placed second with 391k and MSNBC lagged behind with 274k.  CNN ranked #2 in prime in total viewers.

The Eighties is from EMMY® Award-winning producers Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman in association with HBO and EMMY® Award-winning producer Mark Herzog,  The next episode, “The AIDS Crisis,” will air on Thursday, April 9 at 9pm ET/PT.
