CNN maintains leadership position as Europe’s #1 international news brand

– Independent research shows CNN top for cross-platform monthly reach amongst the continent’s affluents

– CNN remains most popular international news TV channel and online destination

CNN is again confirmed as Europe’s biggest international news brand, reaching 36% of the continent’s affluent population every month on TV or digital platforms* according to this year’s Ipsos Affluent Survey Europe study.

The independent industry research shows CNN as having 25% higher reach than the nearest news competitor. With 36% cross-platform monthly reach, CNN is ahead of Sky News (28%), BBC (27%), Euronews (24%), CNBC (13%), Bloomberg (12%) and Al Jazeera English (8%).

In TV, CNN remains well ahead of all news competitors with a 30% monthly reach across Europe. Similarly, CNN is the top news destination site with 11% monthly reach, ahead of competitors such as New York Times (9%) and Financial Times (8%) as well as traditional TV news brands.

Ipsos also found that CNN leads in cross-platform reach amongst core audiences. CNN reaches more C-Suites** (49%), business decision makers (49%), luxury consumers (40%) and frequent international travellers (55%) across Europe every month than any other international business or news network.

“In a world of multiple devices and fast-changing consumer habits, CNN continues to outperform the competition on both linear TV and digital platforms,” said Rani R. Raad, Chief Commercial Officer, CNN International.

“Our continued leadership position across Europe is a testament to the vital role CNN plays in informing and engaging with the continent’s affluent audiences. Whether it’s compelling breaking news on TV, shareable social content on mobile, or a rich digital experience – CNN continues to remain at the forefront of the news landscape.”

Ipsos has conducted the Ipsos Affluent Survey Europe for 2015 with some changes in the methodology compared to previous years to make the survey more brand-centric and less about platforms. For this reason, Ipsos is advising anyone using or reporting on the survey findings that there can be no comparisons to previous years’ performances.

*The Ipsos Affluent Survey Europe defines digital platforms as those accessible via pc/laptop, mobile (app or website) or tablet app.

**C-Suites are defined as C-suite executives/directors 50+ employees worldwide
