Critics of Iran talks … may be really hoping for no deal at all

On a special edition of FAREED ZAKARIA GPS, host Fareed Zakaria discusses the historic weekend negotiations in Geneva, Switzerland, between Iran, the United States, and other nations on Iran’s nuclear energy and weapons programs.  Although U.S. Secretary John Kerry acknowledged over the weekend that the environment for negotiations was challenging and that no deal was reached, he also supported the outlook of the chief negotiator, Catherine Ashton of the European Union, that there is reason to feel progress has been made.

Zakaria asks if critics of the current dialogue are worried more that the discusses were failing — or, if they are more concerned that the talks were succeeding.  His special live guests on the talks this morning include Joseph Cirincione, president of Ploughshares Fund, a global security foundation and author of Nuclear Nightmares: Securing the World Before It Is Too Late (2013), and Kenneth Pollack, a former CIA analyst and author of Unthinkable: Iran, the Bomb, and American Strategy (2013).

FAREED ZAKARIA GPS airs Sundays at 10:00am and 1:00pm on CNN/U.S. and at 3:00pm on CNN International.
