Former NFL player Ricky Williams: Most people would think Lombardi was a bully

Former Miami Dolphins player Ricky Williams and former Detroit Lions player Lamar Campbell joined “New Day” to talk hazing and bullying in the NFL in light of the controversy between the recently suspended Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin, both of the Miami Dolphins. Campbell told CNN’s Chris Cuomo that this behavior is unacceptable, while Williams claimed there is a different standard in the NFL.

Williams said, “If you look at the culture of football and you look at one of the greatest legends of football, Vince Lombardi– If you took the way he managed his team… and you put it under the microscope with social media and media coverage right now, he would fit, probably, most people would put him in the category of being a bully. And I guarantee if you took the same criteria for bullying and you followed each NFL team closely, I would say that 35-50% of the coaches would lose their jobs.”

When CNN Anchor Chris Cuomo asked Williams what he would do if he received similar voicemails, Williams responded, “I would send it back and say, ‘shut up you redneck’. And we both would laugh about it.”

“New Day” airs weekday mornings from 6-9 a.m. ET on CNN.
