Sen. McCain: Government won’t shut down again; Pres. Obama won

On “New Day,” Senator John McCain (R-AZ) guaranteed that the government will not shut down again, predicting that the Senate and House will reach a budget deal hopefully “for a year,” but not without a “fight” within the Republican party. He told CNN Anchor Kate Bolduan that President Obama won and he will engage now if he wants to be a successful president.

Speaking on the public’s low approval of government, Senator McCain joked that even is mother has lost faith. “Look at what the American people’s view of us is. I have this line that I use all the time. We’re down to blood relatives and paid staffers. I got a call from my mother who’s hundred and one [years old]. I just lost one of the blood relatives.”

Speaking of the differences within the Republican party, Sen. McCain said, “At the end of the day, we’ve got to come together. Some place along the line we forgot Ronald Reagan’s eleventh commandment… don’t speak ill of your fellow Republican.”

“New Day” airs weekday mornings from 6-9 a.m. ET on CNN.
