Sen. Brown: Police officers who responded to Capitol Hill deadly car chase “aren’t being paid”

Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) detailed his experience during the Capitol Hill car chase and shooting yesterday and talked the  government shutdown’s effect on unpaid police officers who responded to the deadly incident.

“These police officers technically aren’t being paid right now,” Senator Brown said. “And they will be. I mean the Congress has [to] act, so they will be. And I’m sure we will. And I just want to make sure that we act to pay all federal employees that have done their jobs and not been paid because of a failure of Congress…. This could be settled very easily just if Speaker Boehner would bring this legislation that’s already gone through a bipartisan process in the Senate, bring it up so all 430 some members of the House could vote. John Boehner has to decide if he’s Speaker of the far right of the Republican party or he’s Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. If he decides the latter, the government will open later today.”
