This month, ‘Inside the Middle East’ explores the culture and heritage of Iraq. CNN correspondent Arwa Damon, who covered the conflict in Iraq for three years, discovers hints of the past in the present, strolling through the open-air book markets and along the developed banks of the Tigris River in Iraq’s modern capital, Baghdad, a city which was once the world’s capital of literature, mathematics and the arts.

The programme visits Iraq’s ancient capital, Babylon, which many believe was the cradle of the world’s first civilisation.  Iraq is hoping to preserve the 4,000-year-old ruins of Mesopotamia as a tourist site. However, Damon discovers that, following damage during the Saddam Hussein era and the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, they have a long way to go.

‘Inside the Middle East’ also goes behind the scenes at one of Iraq’s hottest new TV talk-shows, Ako Fad Wahed, which translates as ‘There is This Guy.”  Backstage, Damon learns why the group of male hosts focus much of their comedic banter on relationships and sex – risqué material which has angered some in conservative Iraq.

Damon also travels to the Kurdistan in the north, traditionally one of the safest regions in Iraq.  She meets a group of Iraqis hoping to turn Kurdistan into an international destination for eco-tourism, who take her on a wet and wild ride down the Lower Yab River – considered by some to be the most thrilling white water rapids in the entire Middle East.

In April, ‘Living Golf’ previews the first Major of the year, the US Masters.

Host Shane O’Donoghue catches up with defending Masters champion, Bubba Watson, to talk about family, golf’s favourite boy band the ‘Golf Boys’ (consisting of PGA Tour players Ben Crane, Bubba Watson and Hunter Mahan), whose parody music videos have gone viral, and that playoff against Louis Oosthuizen (pictured). The man who claimed last year’s green jacket with one of the most remarkable shots ever seen at Augusta shows ‘Living Golf’ just how he does it.

The programme also travels to Guangzhou in southern China to spend time with 14-year-old Guan Tianlang, a remarkable talent who is about to make history as the youngest-ever player at the Masters, breaking the record currently held by Italy’s Matteo Manassero.

In April, ‘CNN Business Traveller’ host Richard Quest poses the question often asked by business travellers: when should you opt to travel via rail over air? Quest tests the two options on a round-trip to Brussels – out by rail, return by air.

Railway stations tend to have a smoother security process and less waiting time. However with limited routes and times on offer, air still often wins. Quest meets Eurostar CEO, Nicolas Petrovic, and hears about the company’s forthcoming new routes and trains.

Also in this month’s show, Ayesha Durgahee explores the latest developments towards a universal ticketing system in Europe, along with various efforts to improve food served on trains – often the low point of any train journey.

CNN Business Traveller’ heads to Asia to bring the latest in rail; from the world’s longest hi-speed route to connect Beijing to Guangjou, to India’s plans to revamp its loss making railway network.

In this month’s edition, CNN’s Rosie Tomkins also speaks to Maltese opera singer Joseph Calleja, who explains what his travelling needs are, from humidifiers in the hotel to Maltese flags in his luggage.
