CNN Digital Maintains Dominant Position in New Year

Network Tops Huffington Post Media Group, NBC News Digital, CBS News and Fox News Digital for January 2013

For the month of January 2013 CNN Digital Network maintained its winning position, beating almost every news and information site in unique visitors, page views and video starts.  Ranking below only the combined Yahoo! ABC News Network, CNN placed ahead  of the Huffington Post Media Group and NBC News Digital,  and earned nearly double the traffic of other news competitors.

With 68 million unique visitors for the month, CNN Network beat:

  • HPMG News by 7% (64 million)
  • NBC News Digital by 19% (57 million)
  • CBS News by 78% (38 million)
  • USAToday Sites by 91% (36 million)
  • Fox News Digital Network by 96% (35 million)
  • New York Times Digital by 102% (34 million)

CNN Network delivered 1.9 billion page views, beating:

  • HPMG News by 19% (1.6 billion)
  • NBC News Digital by 60% (1.2 billion)
  • Fox News Digital Network by 76% (1.1 billion)
  • New York Times Digital by 169% (700 million)
  • USAToday Sites by 179% (673 million)
  • CBS News by 225% (578 million)

CNN Digital Network had 113 million video streams – up 89% over last year, surpassing:

  • NBC News Digital Network by 29% (87 million)
  • Fox News Digital Network by 295% (29 million)
  • HPMG News Websites by 1055% (10 million)
  • CBS News Network by 1057% (10 million)
  • NYTimes.com by 1985% (5 million)
  • USAToday.com by 2153% (5 million)

Mobile: CNN Digital maintained its No. 1 position in mobile news – a spot it’s held for nearly 6 consecutive years. With 23 million unique users in December, CNN Digital beat its closest competitor by more than 30% for the month.

CNN’s mobile apps for iPad, iPhone, Android (phone and tablet), Windows (phone and PC/tablet), Kindle Fire, Nook and Nokia have earned in excess of 30 million downloads.

iReport:  iReport experienced notable engagement in the month of January.  Published  on January 14, 2013, the iReport “Why I raise my children without God” received unprecedented user interaction with 7,840 shares, 67K Facebook recommends, more than 770K views, and 9,750   comments to date – the most comments of any iReport in history.  (Source: Business Objects)

CNN’s partnership with Instagram for the presidential Inauguration – Obama’s Inauguration: In the Crowd, resulted in a total of 10K+ images, tagged with #CNN. (Source: Instagram API 1/20-1/21/13)

CNN was the number one most cited TV news brand in measured social media throughout the Inauguration of President Obama.   With 26k mentions on Monday January 21st, CNN  ranked ahead of Fox News (12k), MSNBC (12k), ABC News(8k), NBC News (6k) and CBS News (3k).
