Monday 21 January – Friday 25 January – Coverage throughout the day

The global economy will be debated, dissected and deliberated upon once again in the Swiss ski resort of Davos, with a focus this year on global health issues. Business leaders, government policy makers and financiers will meet under the theme of “Resilient Dynamism” at the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting.

What are the best hopes for Davos 2013?  Who will be the major players at the event, and what are their remits?  What will business want to see from government and what will governments hope to see in return?

From the heart of Davos itself, CNN provides daily live coverage led by CNN’s leading business anchors, Richard Quest, John Defterios and Ali Velshi.

They will be joined by Fareed Zakaria, Editor-at-Large of TIME Magazine and host of CNN’s ‘Fareed Zakaria GPS’, plus CNN Money anchor and business correspondent, Poppy Harlow, as well as CNN Espanol anchor, Gabriela Frias.

At such a crucial period for the global economy, and with most key business leaders in the world gathered in one place, CNN has unique access to those making decisions, and will ask vital questions about the year ahead, the challenges that global instability brings, and examine the tactics that could be employed to tackle the crisis.

In January, ‘Winning Post’ showcases an unusual race of 160 km, the HH Sheik Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Endurance Cup, taking place at the Dubai International Endurance City.

Host Francesca Cumani heads to heart of the desert to meet with the horses, riders and trainers. On race day, Cumani embarks a 4X4’s vehicle to track the competitors’ stamina and the fans’ enthusiasm. What makes this race so particular and exiting? Endurance racing is a test of the horses’ perseverance and strength, where riders must prove a keen horsemanship and knowledge of their mounts’ abilities. ‘Winning Post’ viewers are given a tour of local training facilities, to get a better understanding of the four legged athletes’ preparation for what could be considered a marathon.

With 40 percent of its registered riders being female, the sport is hugely popular amongst women. ‘Winning Post’ gathers with a small group of Emirati female riders and discusses how they took up the challenge of long distance racing. What unique skills do they need to win the competition?

Kicking off the New Year, ‘Open Court’ is in Australia for the first grand slam of 2013. Host Pat Cash presents this edition from his hometown, Melbourne, and meets some of the biggest names in the game.

World number one Novak Djokovic talks to the programme from the sidelines of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship as he prepares to defend his 2012 Australian Open title. Why does he feel 2013 will be his year? And what does he regret most about last year?

Also this month, Pat and Martina Navratilova, both Wimbledon champions, face off on the courts of Adelaide. Pat is a big fan of Martina’s serve and volley game. Can he keep up?

As part of Open Court’s “Where are they now?” series, the surf’s up on ‘Open Court’. Two-time grand slam finalist Mark Philippoussis still plays tennis on the champion’s tour – but the Aussie champion loves surfing. He leads ‘Open Court’ out on the waves.

‘Alpine Edge’, CNN International’s first skiing segment, continues in January and covers some of world’s most exciting skiing events.

The segment, which airs in ‘CNN World Sport’, heads to Switzerland for the Wengen World Cup and the longest Downhill run in the ski racing calendar.

There will be a preview of the race with the defending champion Ivica Kostelic, in his home city of Zagreb as he trains and prepares for the race under the watchful eye of his sister and four-time Olympic gold medallist, Janica Kostelic.

The segment also goes inside the oldest ski factory in the world, Rossignol, to find out how a modern racing ski is melded and shaped to become a high performance piece of equipment capable of speeds of up to 80mph.

Also, ‘Alpine Edge’  undertakes ‘Jury Duty’ with a team of safety specialists whose job is to ensure the course is ready for racing, which can mean the difference between life and death for a professional racer.
