Users tune into CNN TV coverage of debate online

Yesterday, CNN presented its live TV broadcast and offered unrestricted access to the network’s presidential debate programming through CNN.com and via CNN’s apps for iPhone and iPad.  It was the second-highest day this year for live video on CNN.com. (Whitney Houston’s funeral was the first with 1.9 million streams)

Initial traffic for CNN.com’s coverage of the debate showed that users watched, with numbers up across the board:

  • 53.3 million page views globally
  • nearly 5 million video starts globally
  • 1.2 million live streams globally
  • 22.7 million streaming minutes on the domestic site.

Across the CNN Apps for iPhone and iPad, traffic and video also did well:

  • iPhone – 1.3 million global page views and a 112% increase in video usage versus the prior 4 non-event Wednesday average
  • iPad – 3.1 million global page views and video views that were 2.5 times greater than the prior 4 non-event
