In October, ‘Open Court’ travels to Tokyo to meet some of the biggest names in Tennis right now, including world number three, Andy Murray, as he arrives for the Japan Open. It’s straight back into competition mode for the Scottish player, who finally beat Novak Djokovic in a five-set thriller at the U.S. Open last month, winning his first grand slam championship. The champion talks to the programme about his whirlwind summer and his goal to become world number one.

‘Open Court’ also meets Japanese star Kei Nishikori, often known as ‘Special K’. The world number 17 is the highest-ranked male player in Japan’s history, having beaten Novak Djokovic, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and David Ferrer in his career. The programme interviews Nishikori’s coach and his agent, who tell ‘Open Court’ what it’s like to represent Japan around the world.

Also this month, CNN spends time with Shingo Kunieda, paralympian singles gold medallist in Beijing and London, who holds a wheelchair tennis clinic in Tokyo, and host Pat Cash plays a hit with Ai Sugiyama, winner of three grand slam doubles championships. Having recorded wins over Martina Hingis, Steffi Graf and Lindsay Davenport, Sugiyama now coaches children outside Tokyo… but is she prepared for Pat Cash’s volley master class?

In October, ‘Winning Post’ focuses on Europe’s most prestigious all-age race, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, commonly known as The Arc. In this vintage edition, host Francesca Cumani meets the greatest racing horses from the four corners of the globe.

‘Winning Post’ first catches up with Danedream, the German reigning champion who was the surprise package in last year’s race.  This year she aims to become the first filly to defend the Arc since 1937. The show travels to meet some of Danedream’s competitors, Irish horse Camelot and English horse Snow Fairy.

And hoping to score Japan’s first-ever win at The Arc is Japanese horse Orfevre. Cumani speaks to his jockey, hot shot Belgian Christophe Soumillion, who has controversially taken the place of the horse’s previous rider from Japan.

To conclude this edition, ‘Winning post’ investigates what it takes to prepare a horse for The Arc, from years of dressage to hydrotherapy to get them in shape. The programme went to find out where The Arc winners of the future are being made.
