Gov. McDonnell: People aren’t going to vote on immigration

On Starting Point, Governor Bob McDonnell (R-VA) says that immigration is not ‘an issue that is going to move a lot of voters’ and Romney should continue to focus on the economy.

Governor McDonnell says, “I don’t think this is an issue that is going to move a lot of voters. It is in certain areas of the country. I do think it’s one more unmet need that the American people have had for a long time. I think a comprehensive approach, that frankly, both of them have promised is what we need to do. But ultimately that’s not what people are going to vote on. They want to get their sons and daughters out of debt, back to work, reduce their gas prices….”

When CNN’s Christine Romans asks if he doesn’t think immigration will resonate with independent voters, Gov. McDonnell responds, “Well, not much. I mean, look at all the polls. They don’t, I can tell you from listening to people in Virginia, from looking at the polls, it’s about jobs, the economy, energy, prices, and leadership, a vision for the future.”

Starting Point with Soledad O’Brien airs weekday morning from 7-9am ET on CNN.
