In September, ‘Winning Post’ focuses on Germany’s most prestigious race, the Grosser Preis von Baden. The highlight of the German flat racing calendar, this year’s race will be all about one horse: Danedream. Rapidly carving a name for herself as one of the best race mares in the world, she is the first and only mare to win Europe’s two most important middle distance races, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Royal Ascot. Now she’s back on home soil to defend her Grosser Preis von Baden title. ‘Winning Post’ catches up with her trainer and jockey to check on her progress, ahead of her big title defence.

The programme also travels to Baden, where some of the finest fillies in Germany are paraded before owners, trainers and bloodstock agents at one of the continent’s most important yearling sales. ‘Winning Post’ spends the day at the sales, and visits the Röttgen Stud farm outside of Köln, where Danedream’s career began, to see the colts and fillies before they go under the auctioneer’s hammer.
