CNNPolitics.com reaches record traffic for the year

Yesterday, during the DNC, CNN’s Politics section had 6.3 million page views globally, its highest day of the year, and a 315% increase over the prior four week average. Contributing to the traffic success was “Five things we learned from Day One of the DNC” which was the top story on CNN.com yesterday, with 1.6 million page views. CNN.com also served nearly 5 million video starts globally, up 38% from the prior four week average. (Source: Omniture SiteCatalyst)

All of the top five commented articles on CNN.com dealt with politics, specifically the DNC and President Obama, which received a combined total of nearly 30,000 comments. (Source: Disqus)

Downloads to the CNN Apps for iPhone and iPad also increased 219% over the previous four week average. (Source: iTunes)

UPDATE: On Friday, September 7, CNN’s Politics section received even more global page views than on Wednesday. With 6.5 million, Friday is now the section’s highest traffic day of the year. (Source: Omniture SiteCatalyst)
