CNN Digital Gives Users Anytime, Anywhere Access to the 2012 Political Conventions

RNC and DNC Captured Via CNN’s Mobile Apps, CNN.com, Live Video and Social Media

CNN Digital will offer users a front-row seat to the 2012 political conventions via CNN’s mobile apps and website, CNN iReport, social media and through breaking news, analysis, robust multimedia features and live video streaming on CNN.com. Whether on the ground at the CNN Grills or on the Web, CNN Digital will provide insight and understanding to audiences while enabling users to experience delegate votes, speeches and reactions from the convention floor.

“CNN’s approach to the conventions and general election is about much more than a single candidate, campaign or political party. It’s about connecting people to the future of this nation,” said SVP CNN Digital KC Estenson. “CNN’s digital strategy therefore aims to connect voters in a boundless and reciprocal way to the issues, influencers and events driving the 2012 elections.”

CNN Digital’s convention coverage plans include:

CNN.com

Convention Buzz Webcast: CNN Political Reporter Peter Hamby will host a live 15-minute web show from the CNN Grill on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during both conventions. Discussing the day’s convention buzz and taking questions from social media, Hamby will be joined by panelists including Jackie Kucinich from USA Today and Andrew Jenks from MTV.

Live streaming: On the ground from Tampa and Charlotte, CNN Digital will live stream key speeches and newsworthy events giving users a front seat ticket to the conventions through CNN’s mobile apps and at www.CNN.com/live. Users may also authenticate through their cable, satellite or telco providers to access CNN and HLN’s 24-7 television feeds via TV Everywhere.

Special features: Candidate profiles, polling center, live-blogging and round-the-clock coverage from both conventions can be found online through CNN’s Election Center.

Multimedia: CNN will debut “Power,” a digital art gallery showcasing the work of more than 20 artists from various disciplines as they explore the theme of power and politics. In addition, CNN Digital has commissioned photographers to capture the human and humorous side of politicians through pictures which will be featured in daily photo galleries from the conventions.

Election Roundtable: Moderated by Wolf Blitzer, CNN Digital will host live Election Roundtables from the CNN Grills in Tampa and Charlotte. Participants can submit their questions to a panel of political experts via WebEx by visiting www.cnn.com/roundtable at noon ET on Tues., August 28 and Tues., September 4.

CNN Mobile

In addition to providing live streaming access to CNN TV, the CNN apps for iPhone and iPad will feature a robust Election Center that allows users to interact with convention and election content, manipulate CNN’s Electoral Map via iPad, and consume the most important stories and video driving the 2012 campaigns. The mobile CNN Election Center is also available via the CNN apps for Android and Windows Phone 7 and will be optimized for all users of CNN’s mobile website.

Social Media

Facebook & CNN’s “I’m Voting” Application: Available today, the “I’m Voting” app enables people who use Facebook to commit to voting and endorse specific candidates and issues. Users can answer survey questions, chosen by CNN editors, and their real-time responses will be recorded to show how political opinions weigh in across the nation via an interactive online map.

CNN iReport, the network’s global participatory news community, will launch an Open Story from each of the conventions, giving iReporters the opportunity to capture their experiences and add them to an interactive timeline. Additionally, CNN is sending three iReporters to each of the conventions, so they, and the users at home, will have the chance to share their views and opinions about the hottest election issues through the iReport Debate.

Interact: To engage in the social conversation at each convention, which CNN will showcase on a dynamic visualization at the CNN Grills, users can check out the CNN Politics Facebook page, follow @CNNPolitics on Twitter, using the hashtags #CNNElections and #CNNGrill and read CNN’s twice-daily political newsletter Gut Check.

“We seek to elevate the conversation using CNN’s strength across multiple platforms,” said Meredith Artley, VP and managing editor of CNN Digital. “We have an engaged global audience, dominance on mobile and social media, and perspectives you won’t find anywhere else.”
