Profiling some of the most influential women from across the globe, each month ‘Leading Women’ meets remarkable professionals from a variety of fields, including business, the arts, sport and culture.

In August, ‘Leading Women’ meets acclaimed architect Zaha Hadid (pictured), who was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize (considered to be the Nobel Prize of architecture) in 2004 and is internationally known for her built, theoretical and academic work, including the London Aquatics Centre for the 2012 Olympic Games. She received the Stirling Prize, one of architecture’s highest accolades, in both 2010 and 2011 from the Royal Institute of British Architects, and TIME magazine included her in their list of the ‘100 Most Influential People in the World’.

The programme also profiles Mercedes Erra, CEO of France’s leading advertising agency, BETC Euro RSCP. Following disillusionment with the gender pay gap in the education sector, Erra moved to advertising and worked her way up from intern to general director with Saatchi & Saatchi and cofounded the BETC in 1995 – the ‘E’ representing ‘Erra’. In its first 15 years, BETC became the leading advertising agency in the country. With her trademark severe-rimmed glasses, the 57-year-old tirelessly battles for greater gender equality in the workplace, and is a member of France’s leading feminist organization Ni Putes, Ni Soumises (Neither Whores, nor Submissive), and received the prestigious Legion d’Honneur in 2002, and the French National Order of Merit.

Winning Post

Sunday 26 August 1730 BST / 1830 CET

This month’s ‘Winning Post’ comes from Glorious Goodwood, one of England’s most stylish race meetings. The Olympics may have been the main event in London this summer, but the fastest athlete on the planet was in action at the Sussex Stakes. Frankel was attempting to extend his unbeaten run to 12 races, and cement his reputation as the greatest racehorse of the modern era; the programme catches up with his connections after his performance.

If there’s one jockey who knows how to ride a winner at Goodwood it’s William Buick. ‘Winning Post’ spends the day with the jockey who’s tipped as the next Frankie Detorri and also hears from his former mentor, Classic-winning trainer Ian Balding, about why William is the subject of a very unusual bet…

The Magnolia Cup is fast becoming synonymous with Ladies’ Day at Glorious Goodwood. Now in its second year, it’s a race for amateur women jockeys featuring models and celebrities. So what happened when ‘Winning Post’ producer Alysen Miller and presenter Francesca Cumani went head to head over six furlongs?

The Gateway: Jakarta

Jakarta’s Port of Tanjung Priok

Thursday 23 August at 1045 BST / 1145 CET and 1745 BST / 1845 CET
Saturday 25 August at 0845 BST / 0945 CET and 2215 BST / 2315 CET
Sunday 26 August at 1745 BST / 1845 CET
Duration: 15 minutes

This month, ‘The Gateway’ is in Jakarta, capital city of Indonesia, a country which boasts one of the fastest growing economies in the world. However, having recently experienced a significant increase in exports, Indonesia’s infrastructure is struggling to keep up.

Jakarta is uniquely positioned at the centre of the world’s busiest shipping lanes. And while it’s always been the hub of Indonesia, the country’s largest port has bigger ambitions. ‘The Gateway’ reports on an ambitious plan to transform the Port of Tanjung Priok from a regional port to a global one.

As annual volume of cargo has increased threefold at Tanjung Priok, space is increasingly limited. Host Sara Sidner meets one exporter, who takes her through his daily routine to demonstrate how he keeps his business going through Indonesia’s growing pains. The programme also meets an Indonesian Coast Guard and a female captain, who are both dedicated to keeping Tanjung Priok a safe port of call for traders.

Built on the world’s largest archipelago, Jakarta has always been a city built on shipping trade. Just minutes from the modern Tanjung Priok, Jakarta’s ancient port is still active. ‘The Gateway’ boards a traditional Pinisi schooner and learns about the city’s fascinating seafaring history.
