Sen. Cornyn on leaks: Need special counsel; can’t let White House ‘circle the wagons’

Armed Services Committee member Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) talks to CNN’s Soledad O’Brien about the investigation into recent leaks of classified information on Starting Point.

Sen. Cornyn says, “Special counsel was created so that there should be a measure of independence in investigations like this where the natural tendency of the administration when it is the subject of the investigation, the natural tendency is to circle the wagons. And I don’t believe that Attorney General Holder or his deputy are going to be able to do a truly independent investigation.”

He continues, “This is not a partisan issue. So, this is very serious stuff. I don’t think we can just let the White House investigate itself or take its word for it that it is not the source of these leaks.”

Starting Point with Soledad O’Brien airs weekday mornings from 7-9am ET on CNN.
