- Best ever monthly reach score for any news network
- CNN also multi-platform leader in monthly reach
London 21 May 2012. CNN has achieved a record score in the latest EMS 2012 research, adding more weekly and monthly viewers across Europe than any other news broadcaster* and achieving the best ever score for any news network in monthly reach, with 36.9% (18 million viewers)**. Overall, CNN is also the number one multi-platform news provider, with 47% monthly combined reach across TV, mobile, and online**.
The network achieved a remarkable 18.8% growth* in monthly reach – its best performance since EMS launched in 1995 – reinforcing its leadership position on that measure. Elsewhere, CNN comfortably regained the top slot for news channels in weekly reach from Sky News, with an increase of 20.5% year-on-year*. Online there is a similar story, with CNN’s combined web sites*** outpacing those of both the BBC and Eurosport to take the top slot in monthly reach.
Tony Maddox, Executive Vice President of CNN International, said: “For me these results illustrate two things: firstly, there’s a growing appetite for global news; and secondly that people are turning to CNN for that news – and in great numbers. People want a depth of analysis and a genuine breadth of coverage, and we provided that throughout 2011, wherever the big stories were breaking. Add in our commitment to global business news and our excellent sports and cultural programming and there’s a compelling proposition for viewers. To set the best ever score for a news network is a remarkable achievement.”
Rani Raad, Senior Vice President at CNN Ad Sales & Business Development, added: “EMS is now more robust than ever, with new markets and an even sharper insight into Europe’s most affluent and influential consumers. For CNN to achieve a record score in this context underlines the quality of our offering to advertisers across the region.”
EMS 2012 examines the media and product consumption habits of affluent Europeans. The latest research was carried out across the full year of 2011. 49 million qualifying adults aged 21 and over, across 21 markets, comprise the EMS universe.
