This month, ‘CNN Business Traveller’ takes an all-encompassing look at the great pillar of business travel – hotels. From heads of industry to actors turned hoteliers, the programme meets with the key players in this global business.

The trends of today show a changing role for hotels, as travellers demonstrate a thirst for more advanced technology. As the ubiquity of laptops and gadgets spells demise for the business centre, ‘CNN Business Traveller’  hails the rise of the lobby and its 21st century guise as a place of work, play and relaxation, not just a portal for coming and going.

Also this month, host Richard Quest interviews Frits van Paasschen, CEO of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc, one of the global giants dominating this market. Co-presenter, Ayesha Durgahee, addresses the burning question: when will free WIFI be provided as standard? And, as Bill Marriott turns 80 and steps down from the helm of his world famous eponymous hotel chain, the hospitality legend looks back on a lifetime’s work at the company created by his father in 1927.

Hollywood star Richard Gere takes CNN on a private tour of his recently completed hotel, ‘Bedford Post Inn’ in Bedford, upstate New York, where he outlines his hopes for its future, the frustrations of a hotelier and the travels that inspired his latest venture.

Be it the service, the technology, the freebies or the bed itself, this month on ‘CNN Business Traveller’  –  it’s all about the tricky business of getting, or delivering, a good night’s sleep.

It is predicted that 10-20% of the Mauritania population are victims of the slave trade, and yet only one slave owner has ever been prosecuted. This special CNN Freedom Project documentary follows the CNN Digital team as they travel deep into the Sahara Desert to expose this trade.

CNN visited this West African country in the Sahara Desert, to try to understand the reality of slavery in a place where the problem is thought to be more common and more intractable than any other place on earth. That’s because Mauritania’s slaves are held in mental shackles. Many don’t know what freedom is.

CNN Digital’s reporters went to great lengths to uncover the tragedy of multigenerational servitude in Mauritania, spending nearly a year trying to gain entry into the country and conducting many of their interviews at night and in covert locations.

It’s fast and it’s spectacular, yet it’s missing from the 2012 Olympics! Four years ago fans of multihull sailing were shocked to learn that the sport would be dropped from the Olympic schedule after Beijing for the first time in 32 years. However, following a passionate campaign by its many supporters, multihull racing is set to make a comeback inBrazilat the 2016 Olympics.

In April’s Mainsail’, host Shirley Robertson looks at an extraordinary four years for this sailing hybrid – renowned for high speeds and dramatic capsizes. Far from being bowed by its Olympic exclusion, the sport has sailed from strength to strength.

Double-Olympic-gold-medallist Robertson spends time with the individuals who are making waves in this sport: Loick Peyron – the Frenchman who set a new world speed record in leading a crew non-stop around the world in just 45 days; Ernesto Bertarelli – the Swiss billionaire and first man to lead a European team to an America’s Cup victory and Leigh McMillan who represented Team GB in Beijing.

For all three, the tide has turned for multihull racing. London may represent a low water mark for the sport, but their sights are now set on a much brighter horizon.
