Highest Video Usage on CNN.com in History

On Friday during the earthquake and tsunami tragedy in Japan, CNN.com set a new record for live and on-demand video starts.   CNN.com had more than 60 million video starts globally, beating the previous record of 12 million which happened the day after Pres. Obama was elected on Nov. 5, 2008. (Source: Omniture – historical record goes back to 2007.)

Behind the tsunami tragedy in Japan and the Obama election were the following stories:

  • Oct. 13, 2010 – Chilean Miners rescue with 11.5 million
  • Feb. 27, 2010 – Hawaii tsunami warning with 10.2 million
  • Jan. 20, 2009 – Obama’s Inauguration with 9.8 million
